How Many Older People Use Mature Dating Websites?
According to numerous reports the number of older people using mature dating websites to find friendship, love and romance is increasing rapidly. Previously people in their 50s and 60s, who were connected to the internet, shunned dating websites as they usually catered for a much younger audience. The past 5 years has seen an explosion in online dating websites which cater directly to the over 50s singles and mature dating crowd.
A recent poll from Seniors Discounts, provider of discounts and concessions for seniors, found 32% of over 50s would use an online dating website to find new friends or a partner. This is in line with one third of adults knowing someone who has used an online dating service. Seniors Discounts poll also highlighted 53% of older people wouldn’t use such a service and 15% still remain undecided.
Other interesting facts from a survey conducted by Pew Internet & American Life Project Report are:
- 52% of people had positive experiences with online dating websites
- 15% of American adults know someone who has married or been in a long-term relationship with someone they met online
- 57% of internet users believe people who use online dating lie about their marital status
Overall the outlook for online dating and particularly mature dating looks promising. Although, as the Pew Report highlighted there are people who lie and possibly stretch the truth when developing relationships online. When embarking on meeting new people one should approach such situations with a healthy level of caution. Before you meet someone for the first time make sure you follow these mature dating tips.
